Back To Business In Wuxi
Posted by Trevor in Wuxi, Journal, China
Hey Everyone,
Unfortunately, this is going to be my second to last or possibly last update I will send out before I return to Iowa from China next week. I am very sorry! I think that everyone, when they plan out a trip to a foreign country, thinks to himself, “I will take hundreds of pictures and write to all of my friends every 3 days.” But then when you actually get there you end up having so much fun and getting so involved that well… the last thing you are thinking about is stopping to take the time and write a long email! I will be sure to take the time to send out an email and fill in some missing details about my trip when I get back, or if I see you I can tell you all of the stories about my time here. It might take a while, however.
Since getting back from Korea I have spent a lot of time making contacts and learning about importing and exporting. I am leaving tomorrow to spend a few days in Wuxi and visit with several factories. Wuxi is a large city and industrial zone only a few hours south of Nantong. I am making arrangements
with a couple manufacturers to become their distributor for North America and sell their products online. Now I don’t plan to invest all of my time in this because I have to be a student full time; the main reason I am doing this is so that I will have access to their exporting network and have a permanent Visa to re-enter China at any time. There are other ways to accomplish the same kind of thing that I have now become aware of, but this is the most flexible and something that I was planning even before my trip.
Next, on Sunday I will be leaving to go to Shanghai with my father. Sunday we will spend some time in the city and on Monday I have meetings with two trading companies. My friend Allen (his western name, more on Asians and their western names later…) is going to be with me as my translator while I am in Wuxi and Shanghai. Allen is a really funny guy; he is in his 4th year at Nantong University and is majoring in accounting. He is very intelligent, speaks good English, and has adopted many of the American ways of thinking, which is probably why I get along with him so well. I will be flying back on Tuesday to arrive in Des Moines at the end of the day (due to the time zones).
That’s all I can bear to write! Hope everyone is having a great summer.
